NGI Sargasso's Inaugural Onboarding Session: A New Era of Transatlantic Collaboration

The digital age promises not only the growth of technology but also the intermingling of cultures and ideas. And in the heart of this evolution, NGI Sargasso held its inaugural onboarding session, marking the commencement of an exciting transatlantic endeavor.

The session opened with a warm welcome to our first open call beneficiaries. These innovators, chosen for their groundbreaking ideas and team-player spirit, are about to embark on a journey that will change the way technology is perceived and utilized across continents.

At the core of the support that NGI Sargasso will provide these project lies the OnCampus program. This program is not just about advancing tech projects. It's about creating a space where innovation professionals come together, where entrepreneurship is celebrated, and where each project gets the impetus it requires to make a global mark. The program's main goals were articulated to our beneficiaries, setting the tone for the forthcoming months:

  1. Cross-Collaboration and Networking: The essence of innovation often lies in collaboration. By fostering a space where beneficiaries can connect, share, and grow, the OnCampus program envisions a web of ideas that traverses oceans.
  2. Excellence and Impact Recognition: Every project deserves its moment in the sun. With a keen focus on recognizing excellence and gauging real-world impact, the program ensures that every innovative spark gets the acknowledgment it warrants.
  3. Business-Minded Support: Beyond ideation, the transformation of a project into a sustainable business model is crucial. Beneficiaries are provided with the necessary guidance and resources to think beyond the project, considering scalability and profitability.
  4. Global Exposure: In today's interconnected world, a local idea can have global repercussions. Through the OnCampus program, each project is given the platform to be showcased on an international stage.

The timeline of activities was meticulously laid out, ensuring each beneficiary understands the roadmap ahead. This timeline will serve as the backbone of the program, guiding projects from their infancy to global prominence.

Of course, with great innovation comes accountability. The session delved into the specifics of KPIs and payments, ensuring that beneficiaries are equipped to meet the requisite standards and understand the financial scaffolding supporting their endeavors.

Effective communication remains the linchpin of any successful project. Beneficiaries were introduced to the Communication Guide—a comprehensive manual designed to streamline interactions, and create an online community on social channels to advance the dissemination of the future groundbreaking technologies that will come from the completion of the program.

The "Meet the Team" segment was particularly heartwarming. Our team, comprising industry veterans and enthusiastic young minds, is the bedrock on which the OnCampus program stands. Beneficiaries got a firsthand introduction, forging the initial bonds that will only strengthen in the coming months.

The session concluded with an interactive question segment. Beneficiaries, brimming with curiosity and ambition, sought clarifications, insights, and advice, making it evident that the fire of innovation is burning bright.

As the sun set on our inaugural onboarding session, it marked the beginning of countless sunrises. Sunrises that promise new ideas, collaborations, and a transatlantic tech revolution. Welcome aboard, innovators! The future awaits.

NGI Sargasso Joins Forces with StandICT.eu to Engage with Innovators in Next Generation Internet Technologies

NGI Sargasso is happy to announce our first Supportive Partner: StandICT.eu, an EU-funded project fostering the participation of European experts in international ICT standardisation. The initiatives have signed a collaboration framed with a Memorandum of Understanding, targeting to leverage both projects’ engagements and contributions to international standardisation to create an Internet of Trust with a human-centric approach according to the values of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) Initiative.

More about StandICT.eu, Fostering the International ICT Standardisation in Europe

Our Supportive Partner StandICT.eu has three main axes:

  1. It will fund 400+ European standardisation experts in a series of 9 Open Calls providing a total of almost 3M€ of funding.
  2. It manages the European Observatory for ICT Standardisation (EUOS), which is an interactive online ecosystem including an up-to-date standards repository as well as working groups sharing insights about ongoing standardisation efforts across different initiatives.
  3. It trains future experts in ICT standardisation via its Academy. StandICT.eu focuses on horizontal and vertical ICT fields, as defined in the Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation. One focus is the future internet and related topics, namely trusted information, digital identity and interoperability.

“StandICT.eu’s core focus is to support the contribution of EU experts to international ICT standardisation, ensuring that future technology standards meet European values, policies and regulations. NGI Sargasso Programme funding over 90 cross-Atlantic innovation projects run by international ICT experts brings great value to our StandICT.eu community by opening it to new stakeholders and even towards Northern America. I am sure we can initiate valuable joint actions for our respective stakeholders interested in international standardisation”, reflects Mona Marill, StandICT.eu Fellowship Programme Manager.

StandICT.eu 2026 runs a series of Open Calls funding experts who contribute to developing ICT standards, and so far, 5G and beyond have been among the most funded fellowship areas. NGI Sargasso’s community can benefit from the forthcoming open calls and the findings of the already-funded fellowships.

Their consortium if formed by Dublin City University (IE) - Financial and Administrative Coordinator, Trust-IT Srl (IT) - Technical Coordinator, OpenForum Europe (BE), AUSTRALO (ES), European Digital SME Alliance (BE), and Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI (DE).

“Collaborating with Stand ICT offers our candidates a valuable chance to access a rich knowledge pool in the field of standardisation. Within the context of NGI Sargasso, which primarily aims to foster a robust Transatlantic collaboration for advancing next-generation internet technology, standards become a pivotal subject. They facilitate the development of a shared language that transcends borders”, says Raquel Carro,  NGI Sargasso Communication & Dissemination Manager.

More About NGI Sargasso, Boosting the Next Generation Internet Transatlantic Ecosystem

At NGI Sargasso we aim to establish a collaborative ecosystem for EU-US and/or EU-Canada partnerships in Next Generation Internet (NGI) technologies. The project seeks to revolutionise NGI technologies, services, and standards while promoting a human-centric approach of the Internet Commons. Over 36 months, it will run five open calls providing a total of 4.8M€, attracting European, American, and Canadian teams working on emerging topics. Up to 96 projects will receive up to €100,000 in equity-free funding and up to a 9-month capacity-building program that includes mentoring, coaching and other services to drive success. The project encourages proposals addressing NGI standardisation challenges, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing through a common language across global borders.
