With the aim of amplifying our impact and fostering innovation in digital security and networking, at NGI Sargasso we have forged a new collaboration with another Horizon Europe‑funded initiative: PQ‑REACT, Post Quantum Cryptography Framework for Energy Aware Contexts, a project working on framework design, development, and validation for a faster and smoother transition from classical to post-quantum cryptography.

Since we also boost quantum technologies through three of our NGI Sargasso Innovators, we have embarked on a collaborative outreach and cross‑promotion partnership with PQ-REACT, the latest member of the NGI Sargasso InnoConnect Hub.

PQ‑REACT, coordinated by NCSR Demokritos, focuses on enabling the smooth transition from classical to post‑quantum cryptography (PQC). It provides a migration framework featuring cryptographic agility, validation tools, and pilot demonstrations across domains such as smart grids, 5G networks, and distributed ledger systems.

Recognizing the complementary nature of our objectives, one promoting human‑centric Internet ecosystems and the other safeguarding them against quantum threats, the two projects have formalized a partnership. The collaboration will feature mutual visibility and research dissemination across communication channels, such as the projects’ website, newsletters and social media, enabling each project to extend its reach into the other’s stakeholder networks.

This joint effort not only augments the reach and impact of both initiatives but also exemplifies a holistic approach to securing the Internet of tomorrow, advancing both its openness and resilience. By weaving together NGI innovation pathways with quantum‑safe infrastructure, the partnership stands to empower a more inclusive, trustworthy, and future‑proof digital ecosystem across Europe and its Transatlantic partners.

The PQ-REACT partners

PQ-REACT: Post Quantum Cryptography Framework for Energy Aware Contexts

The PQ-REACT project aims to design, build, and validate a framework for a quicker and more effortless shift from classical to post-quantum cryptography for various contexts and usage domains. This framework will include cryptographic agility techniques, PQC migration paths, and a toolkit for validating post-quantum cryptographic systems, enabling users to switch to post-quantum cryptography while considering their unique circumstances and preferences.

The project’s focus is not merely academic; it aims to tackle the practical complexities involved in transitioning from classical cryptographic systems to quantum-resistant ones. Given the pervasive use of public key cryptography in contemporary digital infrastructure, PQ-REACT seeks to forge a robust pathway for the industry’s shift to post-quantum cryptographic systems. That is why PQ-REACT fosters a series of open calls for SMEs and other stakeholders to bring and test their PQC algorithms and external pilots on the PQ-REACT framework.

Funded by the European Union, a team of 12 distinct but highly experienced organizations form the PQ-REACT consortium in order to address the challenges of post quantum cryptography coordinated by the NCSR Demokritos: Fraunhofer FOKUS, Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Hellenic Mediterranean University, AGH University of Krakow, BDI, Indra, Telefónica, AUSTRALO, Sploro, and SmartLex.

NGI Sargasso: Building Bridges Across Continents for the Future of the Internet

NGI Sargasso promotes the developing of a unique collaborative ecosystem to harvest Europe-United States and/or Europe-Canada technology breakthroughs that aim to revolutionize the Next Generation Internet (NGI) technologies, services and standards. We also aim to contribute to the evolution of the Internet according to a human-centric approach of the Internet commons, following to the NGI initiative values of opennessinclusivity and sustainability.

We have funded +50 projects of NGI Sargasso Innovators with a total budget of €4.8 million in the following topics:

  • Trust.
  • Data sovereignty.
  • Digital identity.
  • Internet architecture & renovation.
  • Decentralized technology.
  • Interoperability & standardization.
  • New internet technology.

The NGI Sargasso InnoConnect Hub

The InnoConnect Hub is NGI Sargasso’s collaborative space where we proudly present a series of strategic partnerships with leading Open Source organizations.

Our aim is to foster knowledge-sharing, and build a stronger network within the global tech community. In doing so, we commit to cross-disseminating important updates, trends, and developments across our respective platforms, while also seeking opportunities to co-host webinars and events. By converging our expertise and outreach, these alliances will open the door to innovative endeavors, ushering in a more inclusive and forward-thinking digital ecosystem.

Our members are: StandIC.euFORGINGCrabNebulaMyData2DXCELCO-INVESTINFIERCE6G-REFERENCE, AIPSS, Simeon and the NGI-funded projects NGI SearchNGI Local for Local and NGI Enrichers.
