Project Overview

G-SIGN-IP develops a blockchain- and AI-powered platform enabling secure cross-border authentication, authorization, and patent application management between Türkiye and the United States.

The system modernizes the patent submission process through decentralized data exchange, smart contracts, and AI-assisted likelihood scoring—supporting NGI Sargasso’s mission to build trustworthy, interoperable digital infrastructures.

Challenge

Patent filing between Türkiye and the U.S. is complex, slow, and highly fragmented.
Key barriers include:

  • Centralized, non-interoperable systems prone to manipulation or access issues
  • Lack of trust in cross-border data sharing
  • Low international patent filing rates from Türkiye (~200 U.S. filings per year)
  • Limited awareness about IP procedures
  • Absence of predictive, data-driven tools supporting patent applicants

These gaps create friction, discourage innovators, and limit global IP participation.

Methods and approaches

Blockchain Infrastructure

  • Ensures tamper-proof storage and decentralized verification of patent data
  • Smart contracts automate application steps
  • Renewable-energy-powered servers (100% solar) reduce carbon footprint

Artificial Intelligence Layer

  • Trained on real patent datasets
  • Performs similarity analysis, categorization, and likelihood-of-success scoring
  • Uses optimized models (Qwen3 & PatentSBERTa) with reranking for high-accuracy inference

User-Friendly Web Portal

  • Applicants can submit, track, and manage patent applications end-to-end
  • Administrators can review, approve, reject, and provide feedback
  • Real-time uptime monitoring ensures 99.5%+ availability

Similar Patent Search Engine

  • Provides real-time prior art retrieval through basic and advanced search modes
  • Allows exporting results and reviewing related documents

Key Achievements

All 10 KPIs were successfully achieved, including:

  • 100% renewable-energy hosting
  • Completion of blockchain APIs and smart contract infrastructure
  • AI model training & full integration into pilot
  • Scalability validation (2 → 6 replicas)
  • Login under 5 seconds; blockchain write operations under 30 seconds
  • 99.5%+ system availability (100% during monitored period)
  • Successful public pilot deployment: https://gsign.turksat.com.tr/

Additional accomplishments

  • Patent education resources created (copyright, patent flow, trademark)
  • Conference paper submitted and accepted (ÜNAK 2025)
  • International presentation at ISEF 2025
  • Extensive stakeholder interviews (academia, industry, students, TTOs)
  • Open-source release: https://github.com/Turksat/g-sign-ip
